Meet Robert

Robert J. Woldhuis – Co-Founder & Program Director
Robert is a CCAR-certified Peer Recovery Coach with over 14 years of sobriety, dedicated to walking alongside individuals as they reclaim their lives from addiction. Drawing from personal experience—including five years in jail and five years in prison—Robert connects with people at every stage of recovery with authenticity, humor, and unwavering compassion. His vision is simple but powerful: to create spaces where recovery is celebrated, stigma is broken, and hope is contagious.

Our Mission

At Sober Events and Outreach 419, our mission is to unite the community and empower recovery—one relationship at a time. We believe recovery is not just about overcoming addiction, but about building a life filled with purpose, connection, and hope.
We create safe, judgment-free spaces where people in recovery, their families, and supporters can come together to share stories, learn new skills, and celebrate every victory, big or small. From daily recovery meetings and peer coaching to community events like Sober Fest MI, our work bridges the gap between the recovery world and the broader community, breaking down stigma and replacing it with understanding, compassion, and action.

Our Passion

We are passionate about showing the world that recovery is real—and it’s anything but boring. At Sober Events and Outreach 419, we believe in meeting people right where they are, whether they’re in their first days of sobriety or years into their journey. Our passion is creating opportunities for people to connect, heal, and thrive—through music, laughter, shared meals, learning, and community support.
Every event, every meeting, and every conversation is fueled by the belief that no one should have to walk the road to recovery alone. We bring together individuals, families, and community members to replace isolation with belonging and hopelessness with a vision for a brighter future.

We are here for you

Sober Events is all about community—because it truly takes a village to create a fulfilling life for everyone. Addiction isn't faceless; it touches real people with real stories. By coming together, and learning each other’s names and stories, we start to care deeply and differently. Our community is not just wonderful; it’s vibrant, open-hearted, and eagerly waiting to welcome those in recovery as vital, equal members of our cities and towns.

We're committed to making sure our activities are ones you genuinely look forward to. Your ideas and suggestions are not just welcome—they're essential. Tell us what you want to see and do! We are here to serve you and ensure that fun, connection, and recovery go hand in hand. Let's keep building this amazing community together.
